What Netflix Has Planned for Future Filming

5/15/2020

With a standstill of many industries, production of films and television have unfortunately made that list. Suspension of some productions and postponed releases of others include some highly anticipated and large names. See below for some of the production impacted:  Black Widow, The Matrix 4, The Batman, John Wick 4, Morbius and More
Amongst these holts on production are many fan favourites Netflix originals.  Ted Saeandos however has recently written an article for LA Times that has outlined how the streaming giant plans on reinstating some productions. With its rapidly growing success and large following, Netflix had a dramatic effect on the industry in the past. One of the more unique aspects of Netflix is their embracement of cross-cultural and international productions that are available on its service. This includes series like ‘Money Heist’, ‘Call My Agent!’, and ‘Kingdom’. And it turns out that this global outlook is a big benefit when working around corona.
Picture
Filming for some production have now started in South Korea, Japan, and Iceland as Saeandos reports. As guidelines and risk differ from not only country to country but even some cities, each production is unique and must work within safeguards dictated by each health authorities. Just some of the guidelines and their relevant production are outlined below.
Picture
For productions to go forward safely and confidently, tests for Covid-19 are especially necessary and following social distancing procedures  South Korea and Sweden have a limited supply of tests. For South Korean series such as ‘Move to Heaven’ and ‘Love Alarm’, to go forward, all cast and crew have their temperature checked regularly. If any sign of infection is present, production is paused, and testing is immediate.
In Sweden they have gone to further extent by all cast and crew going through a voluntary 14-day self-quarantine before the shoot of romantic comedy series ‘Love and Anarchy’. There quarantine will continue through the 11-day shoot.
Whilst testing is widely available in Iceland, similar procedures are being adhered. After all negative tests came back from the cast and crew of the science-fiction series ‘Katla’, everyone still has their temperature taken first thing in the morning. All these productions will follow similar standards of hygiene – hand and surface sanitisation, social distancing where possible, and single-use, disposable makeup applicators.
One thing is for certain; the short-term future of productions is going to look a lot different to what we are used to. Thankfully however, this industry has never been short of innovative and creative professionals. Whilst scripts may have to be readdressed, on set filming reduced and limitations of both crowded and intimate scenes, this industry is sure to continue to provide entertainment to the masses.

Celebrities In Isolation!

Picture
When news came out about Tom Hanks being positive for Covid-19, his light hearted positivity gave way for many celebrities to bring their personalities to the world in helping us through this new world we are living in.
We are all experiencing a new world with isolation, social restrictions and waiting for that next filming day to start! Though many may have a touch of the blues, taking a minute to appreciate the little things in life is important at this time. Thankfully with Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok, our favourite musicians, comedians and actors are keeping our hearts filled with music, love and laughter!
Here are a few of our favourite Celebrity in Isolation Social Media posts from the last few days!

Conan O'Brian Toilet Paper Life Hacks

With the sudden craze for buying multiple packs of toilet roll, supermarkets are slowly seeing the impacts of this with many stores rapidly running out due to panic buying. But, fear not, Conan O’Brien has the solution, and it’s just as ridiculous as you’d expect...
Looking after our mental health is vital whilst this pandemic grows and continues; certainly a key component to getting through this crisis.  With this in consideration, US singer, Lizzo invited fans to indulge in some musical meditation.
The session began with the signature sound of the Grammy-winner's flute before she delivered her soothing mantra, exciting listeners and encouraging them to stay for the full video

Music Mindfulness with Lizzo

"When I got back to LA I noticed that the fear was heightened here. So I wanted to empower everybody and I wanted to let you guys know that we have power, you have power. You have power to eliminate fear."
Lizzo’s wise words are definitely one to hold onto in these times of heightened anxiety!

Simon & Nick returned to the screen together in recreating their work Shaun of the Dead in an PSA to follow the guidelines set by the NHS. Having a bit of a laugh themselves in the shortage of toilet roll and how to keep social distancing as a part of our lives, we are thankful for such teams like these lads keeping a smile on our faces!

Simon Pegg & Nick Frost

Fortress Building with Lauren Conrad

Picture
Being confined in a family home often means one thing; kids becoming bored and irratable! If you have kids of your own and have started to run out of cookie recipes to distract them with, take a leaf out of The Hills alumni Lauren Conrad’s book and persuade them to make a fort. I know she’s set the standards high.. but make it their challenge to create an even better den (if that’s even possible).
There are countless new videos popping up from our favourite Celebrities, this is just a few that IPM found to be very fun, light hearted and keeping our spirits high during uncertain times. Remember to stay creative and keep your mind on the positives!

RTS Award Nominees Announced! A great year for Comedy!

3/4/2020

The nominees for the RTS awards, one of Britain's most prestigious, have been announced - and it's a strong night for comedy, with all three of those nominated in the Breakthrough category being so for comedic performances. If you seek inspiration and motivation, just look below for our rundown of the comedy awards.

Irish actress Aisling Bea is up for the Breakthrough Award for starring in (and writing!) in the series This Way Up, a series showcasing the trials and tribulations of a a young English teacher in London. The show takes a hilarious yet emotionally-affecting look at the ways in which city life can wear down even the most stubborn and motivated among us, maintained by Bea's heartfelt and honest performance; the actress and writer has never been ashamed of wearing her heart on her sleeve, understanding that laughter and tears are close bedfellows.

Picture
American comedian Tim Renkow, also up for the Breakthrough Award, has propelled himself into the list with his starring role in the gut-busting and deeply uncomfortable Jerk, based on his own experiences and stand-up comedy; a series which turns stereotypes and representations of  disability in art on their head by portraying Renkow himself, who has cerebral palsy, as a truly horrendous man, always looking for ways to use his condition to his advantage (usually to the detriment of others). Not for the feint of heart or humour!

The second series of BBC's Motherland, now in it's second series, is up for multiple awards, including the final Breakthrough Award nomination for Tanya Moodie and a Best Comedy Performance (Female) nomination for Diane Horgan. Motherland concerns the bitter social warfare that happens between a group of working mothers; Moodie plays Meg, a high-flying business executive who releases the stress of a busy worklife and busier homelife through explosive partying, while Horgan plays Liz, a blunt figure of chaos who proves unpopular with the more successful mothers. A rowdy, raucous experience.

Picture
Also up for multiple awards is Channel 4's Derry Girls, a sitcom set in an unlikely time and place - Northern Ireland during the most intense period of the troubles. The daring series follows Erin Quinn, played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson (another Best Comedy Performance (Female) nominee), a girl with a dark sense of humour that often comes at odds with her conservative and fraught environment. The uncompromising humour of the series with regards to a situation that doesn't seem to have much to laugh at has earned the series a Best Scripted Comedy nomination.

Derry Girls has tough competition in both of these categories, however; Fleabag, written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, now world famous and writing the next James Bond film, has also been nominated for both Best Scripted Comedy and Best Comedy Performance (Female). The series barely needs introduction, but if you've been living under a rock, Waller-Bridge...in fact, we won't tell you. You just have to see it for yourself.

Rounding off the Best Scripted Comedy nominations is Stath Lets Flats,a family sitcom about an inept letting agent trying his hardest to work with his father, who makes him look positively competent by comparison. The nominations for Best Comedy Performance (Male) are going to Ncuti Gatwa for his endearing performance as Eric in Netflix's brutally honest coming of age comedy Sex Education, Youssef Kerkour for his role in the social satire Home as Sami, a Syrian immigrant discovered hiding in the boot of a middle-class family after a holiday in France, and Alex Murphy & Chris Walley for their trouble-making double act in the dark yet heartfelt Irish teen comedy The Young Offenders.

Whew! With a line-up like this, it'll be difficult to choose the best of the lot - and this is just the awards for comedy! Good luck to everyone; we'll be watching with attentive eyes, for sure.

After the 2018 announcement that Channel 4 is moving its National Headquarters to the Yorkshire city of Leeds, many of us film and TV fanatics presumed it couldn’t get much better than that. But good news! Larry Budd and Paul Dunphy, the award-winning pair of comedy sketch writers and BBC radio presenters, have launched a new independent comedy production outfit, Northern Imposters Productions. That’s right; Leeds is to be home to yet another exciting production company!

With the intention to create and produce fresh Northern comedy, the company has set its sights on developing scripted comedy for both TV and Radio, whilst aiming to draw on the extensive pool of talent that the North has to offer. Larry & Paul are two lads based in Leeds, who create comedy sketches that they release on YouTube every Saturday, alongside a weekly radio show on BBC Radio Leeds. Their passion for comedy combined with their recognition that Leeds’ comedy platform has potential to grow has led them to create a production company that brings Northern talent to the world's attention. By utilising the North's pool of talented comedy artists, they aim to produce content that has a Northern stamp on it, but broad national audiences.

Having already won awards for their content and engaging sketches, Northern Imposters Productions will definitely be a company to watch. Details about the company's specific commissioning strategy, further staffing, and submission procedures will be announced at a later date but make sure to keep your eyes peeled as more great opportunities unfold in Leeds! Whether it’s the start of your acting career, or your foot in the door as a runner, there are many great opportunities opening each day in Yorkshire!

"We were on a break" Friends project in the works

11/21/2019

As Ross Geller said “We were on a break”, well times have changed and it has now been revealed by Jennifer Aniston that the fun-loving, charismatic 90’s sitcom group have hinted at a comeback.
Picture

The petitions to fan wishes over the years, the re-runs of the show on tv and the cycle of binge-watching Rachel and Ross break up and get back together is now over, as fans of the sitcom ‘Friends’ can now prepare themselves for a possible friends reunion.

Appearing on the Ellen show in October, Aniston discussed how all the cast (David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry) wanted to do a FRIENDS reunion of some sort saying “Listen. We would love for there to be something”.

Although she denied doing a movie and said there will be no actual tv reboot of the show, there is still hope for all the crazed Friends fans for the future with Aniston further commenting “We’re just trying. We’re working on something”.

Although fans have been clutching at straws for this to happen over the past few years, some fans think that it’s best to leave the sitcom in the past instead of creating something new and ruining storylines.
Picture

Despite some fans of the sitcom feeling like it could be ruined, many more have their fingers crossed that something special will finally become of the cast's reunion. There have been many discussions about how the project would take place with discussions being made about the project as well as the seasons airing on HBOMax. Hopefully we'll see the gang back together soon for some of the memorable catch phrases that everyone loves!

And the number one rated horror film goes to Psycho (1960)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, this classic noir film features a brutal knife scene which is accompanied by Bernard Hermann’s jarring score that creates a tense and uncomfortable watch. Gearing up for its second series End of the F****** World made a huge impact when it’s first aired in 2017. Its stars Alex Lawther, who plays an angst filled teens who believes he is a psychopath and Jessica Barden, who plays love interest Alyssa. The two embark on an adventure to escape Alyssa's turbulent home. The pair travel across England and through a series of mishaps they grow closer to each other. Derry Girls

Set during the Troubles in Northern Ireland Derry Girls is a sitcom about a group of high school girls who get into mischief. The show has just been commissioned for its third season and is showing that it is here to stay, garnering a strong following in its first couple of seasons. The shows setting of 1990s Ireland plays on the nostalgia of it’s more mature audience and the cast of young girls are relatable to many young girls today. Yorkshire on the Screen

10/15/2019

With its rolling landscapes and an abundant of period properties, Yorkshire offers a plethora of filming locations for any television and film project. It's no wonder that Channel 4, Sky and NFTS are making moves to Leeds! Our team at IPM have put together just a few of the spectacular places that the region has to offer.

Harewood House

A popular filming location, close to Leeds and Harrogate, Harewood House has been used for many productions and is the perfect backdrop for period dramas with its rich Georgian interiors. The historic house has been home to Victoria for series 1 and 2, The Black Prince, Death Comes to Pemberley and most recently, played host to the Downtown Abbey film.

The much loved period drama made its debut on the big screen and showcased many of Yorkshire’s most iconic filming locations. The feature film was shot at multiple locations throughout the region including North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Little Germany in Bradford and of course the beloved Harewood House. Pickering Railway Station was used as a double for London’s King Cross station due to the unique way in which it has been preserved as a period location. In celebration of Victoria using Harewood House as a key filming location an exhibition was curated to celebrate the success of the programme. The opulent rooms showcased costumes from the programme as well as a behind the scenes look at the filming within the house and grounds.

Fairfax House

In the heart of York, Fairfax House has been the location for television and film and most famously was used as the location for Gentleman Jack. Written by Yorkshire born Sally Wainwright, Gentleman Jack is based on the real diary of Anne Lister.
Set in Halifax, Gentleman Jack used several other locations throughout Yorkshire and showcased much of what the region had to offer. The ancestral home of Anne Lister, Shibden Hall in Halifax was used in the programme as well as Newby Hall (Ripon), Bramham Estate (Leeds), Broughton Hall (Skipton), Harewood House (Leeds), Halifax Town Centre, Lawrence Batley Theatre (Huddersfield), Little Germany (Bradford) and the streets of York.

Picture

Picture

Many of Anne’s confrontations with the Rawson Brothers take place on Rawson street in Halifax but the filming for this scene took place in the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. The area of Little Germany in Bradford was used as the location of the street scenes set in Halifax in the 1830s.

Goathland Railway Station

For the first Harry Potter film, production used Goathland Station for filming. It was called Hogsmeade Station in the film and was where the Hogwarts Express ended. You can see where Hagrid gave Harry the photo of his parents as he makes his way to start his journey at Hogwarts.
Picture

Located amongst the Yorkshire Moors, this picturesque station opened up the world of magic to viewers. It is also famous for appearing as Aidensfield station in the television serie 'Hearbeat' as Mannerton in the TV series 'All Creatures Great and Small; and in the end of the video of 'Holding back the years' a song by Simply Red released in 1985.
Picture

FOUNTAINS ABBEY

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield.  As part of the National Trust, Fountains Abbey creates the most picturesque location to use in production.

Picture

The preservation was a key part of filming in the BBC's 'Gun Powder' as the historical site brought the life of Guy Fawkes and the Gund Powder Plot to television. For years, Fountains Abbey has been used in many screen favourites like 'Death Comes to Pemberly', 'The History Boys' and many many more productions.
BBC's 'Gunpowder' used many more iconic locations including Kirkstall Abbey and East Riddelsden Hall.

Picture

LEEDS TOWN HALL

Picture

The Phenomena that is Peaky Blinder's has made it's way around Yorkshire for location work with the support of Screen Yorkshire. Leeds Town Hall is amongst many great locations that the BBC series utilised in their work.

It was also used in the opening scenes of the 2016 film 'Dad's Army' while 'The New Statesman', 'National Treasure' and 'The ABC Murders' TV series are among productions which have used interior and exterior shots of Leeds Town Hall to bring to life their story.
