Ever dreamt of diving headfirst into the captivating world of Emmerdale? Now’s your chance. This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in bringing one of the UK’s most beloved soaps to life.
As part of the Emmerdale team, you'll work closely with the story department, scriptwriters, and production crew—becoming the crucial link that keeps the wheels of storytelling turning. Whether it’s collaborating with editorial minds or liaising with external contacts, you’ll be reporting directly to the Producer, delivering the essential research that shapes life in the Dales. From Commissioning to Story Conferences, you’ll be right on the front lines, responding to research challenges in real time to keep the drama rich and relevant.
What the Role InvolvesYou’ll be the go-to person for digging up vital research that helps our storylines pack a punch—from the earliest stages of development to the final script. You’ll proactively unearth information, identify new opportunities, and support Producers and Directors with insights that keep the narratives sharp and authentic. It’s a fast-paced role, often with long hours, but for those who thrive in a creative environment, it’s immensely rewarding.
What You'll Need (Minimum Criteria)
  • At least 12 months’ experience in a research role within the television or film industry
  • Previous work on a Continuing Drama or scripted television, with a good grasp of TV production processes
  • Experience researching topics such as medical conditions, legal matters, or social issues that tie into current storylines
  • A genuine passion for storytelling, demonstrated through creative pursuits like theatre, literature, screenwriting, or in-depth script analysis
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Confidence using research databases, search engines, and the Google Suite
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a commitment to fact-checking in a high-pressure setting
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work irregular hours if required
  • Understanding of UK broadcasting regulations (Ofcom), copyright, and ethical considerations in storytelling
They'd Also Love to See...
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments
  • A genuine interest in Emmerdale’s storylines, characters, and the world of Continuing Drama
  • Industry awareness and strong research instincts
  • Strong initiative and time-management skills—you'll need to juggle tasks and prioritise independently
  • The ability to adapt to shifting deadlines and fast-moving story developments
  • A sharp eye for detail, accuracy, and consistency
  • Creative flair and the confidence to contribute fresh ideas to the team
ITV is for EveryoneWe’re committed to building an inclusive workplace. As a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee an interview for any candidate who meets the minimum criteria and identifies as Deaf, Disabled, and/or Neurodivergent.
If you need any support or adjustments during the application process, we’re more than happy to chat—just let us know.

Hi my name is Rachel Aitken , I have always loved acting from a young age and have always dreamed on being on tv. I am a bachelors of he arts student at Bradford college with extensive knowledge on the acting industry. But need a nudge in the right direction and this would be the perfect operunity from going from amaur acor to proffeshinal.

I have extensive stage experience across a range of productions, having appeared in approximately ten productions to date. These include both ensemble and principal roles, most notably playing the Detective in The Mousetrap and Ben in The Priory for college productions. Through these roles, I have developed strong skills in character work, text analysis, and sustaining performance over a full run.

Alongside theatre, I have been involved in film-based projects supported by the British Film Institute, including work on a short film project that was shortlisted for BFI Film Awards consideration. I have also participated in Shakespeare Schools Festival productions and have a long-standing background in drama clubs from a young age, giving me consistent performance experience over several years.

My training has given me a solid understanding of rehearsal process, taking direction, and working collaboratively within an ensemble. I am highly committed, reliable, and keen to continue developing professionally through auditions and industry opportunities.

I am autistic and view this as a strength in my work, particularly in focus, attention to detail, and depth of character exploration. I am proactive about communication and thrive in structured, creative environments. I have also got epilepsy and a rare brain condition but this has never stopped me before so would love if I do hear back from you to take every opportunity I get, including if I can be an extra on Emmerdale.

I am now looking to work with an agency that can help guide me as I take the next steps into professional theatre, film, and television work. I would be very grateful if you would consider my submission.

I am interested in becoming a cast member of Emmerdale, but don’t know where to start.
I have six years of working in theatre ant to expand to the big screen, maybe as an extra to start off so you can see how I cope.
One of my biggest dreams is to work along side Jonny McPherson

I am an excellent actor but with limited experience of screen acting. I have formal screen and theatre training. I would make a great Dingle and I am going to send a showreel albeit an old one but will demonstrate my ability. I haven’t changed too much but have aged about 10 years from when the reel was made. I could be a cousin of Chas or Charity possibly. I would give my heart and soul and be a loyal servant of course hehehe

I'm currently doing extra work with Emmerdale and down as village regular . My agency is regency agency. I would like the opportunity to do further work if possible like if any lines or some acting comes available I'll be honest I've not got a lot of theatre or drama experience but I've worked on stages for over 30 years now as a tribute act,I have been with agency now for 6 years I have spoke to my agency about any auditions availablity, but I've just come across this information I hope you don't mind me sending this message but if I'm not in the right direction can you advise me please which direction I could take please. I'm enthusiastic funny and get on with everyone, I know qualifications go a long way but if I can be put in the right direction I would be grateful. Thanks Ian.

I would like to be on emmerdale since I have been on hollyoaks, Corrie, and Eastenders before. I want my storyline to be when meena Jutla’s secret kid arrives at the village to get the truth out of the victims that she tortured like Dawn, Billy, Manpreet, and Liam
