Everyone knows ‘FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT and boy is that true.

Whether you are fresh to the industry or preparing yourself for your next audition, we all have one thing in common,
we all want to make the Right Impression! I
n this industry the audition is the prime time to make that initial impression. We want to give you some key tips to make sure that you bring the BEST YOU to the casting room.

No one is perfect and being nervous is natural, but you can use that to help you prepare more effectively!

Here are a few tips to help you BE THE BEST YOU!

FACE - EYES, MOUTH and EARS…
Make eye contact with everyone you meet, in and around your audition environment. This, for one, projects confidence, professionalism and maturity and  also helps you remember faces… very important faces.

Smile, simply because smiles are contagious and they are lovely to look at. Everyone likes a smile.

"The biggest communication problem is we don’t listen to understand.
We listen to reply."

“Ears…?!?!” I hear you say. Ears are for listening and listening is vital when you first meet someone.
Listen for names (and remembering it).
Listen for instruction and direction to show focus and adaptability.
Listen to feedback and be prepared to progress from it.

CONFIDENCE
Be confident in being you. Know who you are as a person as well as a performer and know what you are capable of.
BE YOURSELF, BRING YOUR INDIVIDUALITY, BRING YOUR PERSONALITY.
This makes it more interesting and memorable during the audition process.
It will also take the edge off if you stay real to who you are.
You never know what a casting director is looking for, whether that is in the present or for future projects.
They will like you for being you… and therefore they will remember YOU.

Be confident and BE HUMBLE

THE 3 P’s
BE PUNCTUAL… never just ‘on time’.
BE PREPARED - and remain focused on what is happening at that very second.
BE PRESENT- It is very easy to tell if your mind isn’t present and this can effect your experience.
Blink and the audition is over… so fully commit to each second of the process.
Don’t anticipate what is about to happen in the room.
Go with the flow and be prepared for anything!

BE POLITE
Manors are free!
A ‘thank you’ can go a long way and it shows your gratitude for the opportunity to be in the room.
ALWAYS be polite to everyone you meet.
You never know who knows who and ‘word of mouth' is a powerful tool in this industry.
It is the little things that leave a lasting impression.

PRACTICE
No body is perfect,  but you have POTENTIAL and that is why you are asked to auditions. Always remember ...
POTENTIAL COMES FROM THE WORK YOU PUT INTO YOUR DREAMS!
If you put the time in to dig deep and learn your craft you should feel prepared.
Being prepared will help you feel less nervous and you’ll be more PRESENT … you see, it all links together.

If you CONFIDENTLY put these tips into PRACTICE and continue to be
'THE BEST YOU'
you’ll be making a great impression in no time.

Stay humble and work hard but most of all ENJOY THE MOMENT.

Everyone is looking for the best way to get into the casting studio! Here are some key tips on how to keep progressing in your career and build your CV from the casting team at IPM Acting Academy!
Show Your Skills
A good way to make your CV unique and stand out is to include a list of your specific skills. These skills could be anything from stage fighting to sports or baking. Anything to set you apart from competition.

Professional headshots!

Invest in a nice set of headshots that are professional and showcase you as an actor. This is the first thing casting is going to look at before anything else you submit.
Have a strong accent list

The most obscure and specific accents you can do the more you will stand out to casting directors, RP and standard American are great but every actor can do these, so get practicing the more specific ones. You could also use an  asterisk (*), to highlight your native accent.

Tailor your CV

Know your casting type. This doesn’t mean putting all of your ‘eggs in one basket’ it merely means knowing what roles you do and don’t fit and including skills that relate to that and tailoring your show reel and production photos to this.
Build a Show Reel

Spend time creating a showreel that showcases your character range and shows casting directors what you can do. Having a strong and professional showreel is very beneficial and will stand you above and make you stand out to casting directors.
