With 2019 only a few days away, everyone's resolutions will be in full effect! If becoming an actor, or continuing your journey as a screen actor is part of your New Years Resolutions, IPM Acting Academy has a few tips to follow on where to start!
1. Read and Study

Familiarising yourself with the industry is the first step to becoming an actor. Get to know the ins and outs of the business, how it works and what people are involved in it. Once you know the intricacies of this business, you’ll find it much easier to develop your plan of action to begin your career. It will also give you a better understanding of methods, theories and techniques that will further your skills.

2. Work On Your Skills

Though focusing on your acting ability should be your main priority, that doesn’t mean you should ignore your other talents.  Any additional skills are an extraordinary way to start your acting career. You never know what casting directors will be needing to find for a production. Whether it is riding a unicycle, operatic singing or accents, keep up on your unique skills and you will stand out amongst the crowd!

3. Know Your Marketing
Though your CV may not be ready to show to the industry, being able to market yourself and your ‘brand’ is beneficial in getting started with building your experience. Focus on things like social media presence, connections with other actors and even your own personal website. These things can highlight anything you are doing to further your skills as an actor and will also link you to other opportunities!

4. Auditions
Auditions, no matter how big or small, are chances for you to show your ability as an actor. Whether it is for a student film, unpaid roles or drama clubs, these auditions give you more practice and preparation for the industry. What you do in one audition, might not be what they require in the next, being prepared for anything when you walk into a casting will show your professionalism.
A key thing to remember about becoming an actor:  patience will keep your career moving forward. No actor is made over night, it takes time, practice and even rejection to build a strong performer.

5. Take Classes!
Take lessons that will benefit your confidence, your career goals and growth of your skills. The industry is always changing and keeping up to date with methods, practice and knowledge shows casting directors, directors and producers that you are keen on staying at the top of your game.

Even if you are a beginner in the industry, an Acting CV is just as important as your professional headshot.
Updating your details consistently will show your growth as a performer.

How long is your CV?

Not all actors have endless credits to add to their CV, but you must show casting directors that you have made the dedicated time to ensuring your skills are up-to-date and  are consistently being improved.

Some key things to look at when creating your CV are:

VERSATILITY

The more skills you develop in your training means that it will open more opportunities for casting. Your Acting CV must be completed with all the details that will highlight your key skills in acting.

You never know what casting will be looking for in a performance. Your athletics, musical and dancing skills can further your chances to get into the casting studio, so be sure to include them in your final CV to submit for casting.

 CHARACTER ROLES

As much as we do not like type casting, it is a part of the industry. Know what kind of roles you can perform and where you best fit under casting categories, this will show casting directors that you know yourself as a performer and build a confident audition.

When submitting yourself for a casting call, pick the strongest character that best matches your ability. Do not bombard casting by putting your name forward for every role, show them that you know your strengths.

If you're not getting picked up for castings, need to develop your experience, ability and skillset, join IPM Acting Academy today
and thats exactly what we can do.
